First TEAM Vegetation Training WorkshopNovember 8, 2002 Caxiuanã, Para, Brazil — The first TEAM Vegetation Training Workshop was held at the Ferriera Penna Scientific Station, Caxiuanã, Para, Brazil in November, 2002. Oliver Phillips, Tim Baker and Simon Lewis of the RAINFOR Program from the University of Leeds, UK, led this workshop that included scientists from three of TEAM's Brazilian collaborators, the Museu Goeldi in Belem, INPA in Manaus and the Parque Estadual do Rio Doce in Minas Gerais. The trainees included Almir Gomes, Simone Gurgel, Daniel Nascimento, Nelson Rosa, Carlos Rosário, and Antonio Sérgio from the Museu Goeldi, Iêda Amaral from INPA, and Marise Horta and Tereza Spósito from Rio Doce. These scientists were trained in the establishment of 1 hectare (haha) permanent plots, re-census of 1 ha plots, 0.1 ha transect methodology and analysis of data. This training workshop marked the implementation of the first Integrated Monitoring Protocol that TEAM has developed in conjunction with many scientists, from a broad range of fields. |
