TEAM hosts its second Analytical Workshop

October 29, 2007

TEAM hosted its second Analytical Workshop on October 29th - November 3rd, 2007 at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama City, Panama. The topic for this workshop was occupancy and density estimations. Complementing our biodiversity indexes workshop earlier this year, this workshop taught methods to estimate occupancy and how to correct for detection probability and density estimation using various methods. These methods are useful for all biodiversity protocols where detection is uncertain including the standardized TEAM protocols for birds, butterflies, camera traps, and primates.

The main instructors for the course were Jim Nichols, Jim Hines and Steve Buckland. Jim Nichols is a senior scientist and Jim Hines is a computer specialist, both from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Steve Buckland is a professor of statistics from St. Andrews University in the United Kingdom. They will be supported by Tim O'Brien from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Gonçalo Ferraz from the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA).
