Zone of Human Dynamics and Ecosystem Change (ZoHDEC) Protocol

The ZoHDEC protocol delineates the extent of the coupled human-natural system around a TEAM site that strongly influences biodiversity at the measurement locations. The ZoHDEC is the area to be monitored for changes in human activities such as hunting, land cover, habitat continuity, hydrological processes and environmental barriers in order to support analysis of potential causes for changes in biodiversity at each TEAM site.

TEAM Zone of Human Dynamics and Ecosystem Change (ZoHDEC) protocol in a nutshell:

The process of identifying the ZoHDEC is based on environmental data layers and local expert opinion, in particular:

  • Drainage basin boundaries (watersheds)
  • Contiguous habitat
  • Human activities
  • Migration corridors
