Volcán Barva 2009 Q3Year: 2009 Quarter: Q3 Communications activities:
The Site Manager gave two general talks about the TEAM Project -Wildlife Management and Conservation Course. - Research Undergraduate Students. OTS course. 12 people. The site manager submitted two abstracts that were accepted in two upcoming conferences (Sociedad Mesoamericana para la Biología y la Conservación, Costa Rica and Congreso Colombiano de Zoologia, Colombia). Meetings with government agencies: There were no meetings this period. Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:
On May, a new climate station was installed at 600 masl with double temperature/RH and pyranometers sensors, and precipitation tipping bucket, following the new TEAM climate protocol. Currently, both, the old and the new weather stations are running together at the same place using one solar panel connected to a 12V battery. The fan aspirated radiation shield of the new climate station was installed on May and now all sensors of the weather station are running.
New Species:
On April 13, 2010, a jaguar (Panthera onca) was photographed at CT-VB-3-13 at 1785 m.a.s.l. The jaguar looks very healthy and curious. The spot patterns comparison with the jaguar caught on camera in 2005 at LOC450, within the boundaries of La Selva Biological Station, leads us to believe this is a different individual.
Protocol Problems: There were no protocol problems. Schedule Problems:
We have completed all climate, vegetation and terrestrial vertebrates sampling scheduled up to date. The vegetation censuses carried out are the plots located at 600, 2000, and 2800 masl. The terrestrial vertebrates samplings carried out correspond to Array 2 and 3 (middle and high elevation).
Logistical Problems:
We had a problem with the old weather station where we missed collecting the data on April and we are planning to recover it from the datalogger at the end of June.
Personnel Changes: There were not personal changes this period. |
