Pasoh TEAM Progress Oct-Dec 2011January 26, 2012 Terrestrial vertebrate: Images from Array 2 were collected in mid October 2011. The Pasoh TEAM team was anticipating exciting photos of vertebrates in this what seemed to be a more intact and dense forest in comparison to Array 1. Although this was topographically true, but on the ground experience had indicated high incidences of poaching by the arborigines and local communities. Numerous snares were found along animal trails, a couple of which almost snared our team member. The memory cards has been sent to TEAM head office (Jorge A) as the Pasoh TEAM is still experiencing problems uploading images using the TEAM website tools.
Vegetation: As October through December are the monsoon months in Malaysia, measurements could not be taken. Instead the vegetation team still went out to establish the vegetation plots in Array 1 and 2. Trees were also tagged, marked and mapped to be measured early 2012.
Climate station: Monthly checks in November revealed that the fan for the temperature and humidity sensors were faulty due to some wiring problems. It took awhile to troubleshoot and fix the problem. The team is still experiencing problems retrieving data from the memory card and is working with the TEAM technical team to resolve this. |
