Year:
2012
Quarter:
January - March
Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

The 2012 dry season was relatively short and wet.

Protocol Activities:

The terrestrial vertebrate census was conducted for the second time. Camera traps were deployed for ≥30 days at 30 points in each of the 2 arrays. The photos from the first array were analyzed in DeskTEAM and uploaded to the TEAM data portal.

The second census of the vegetation plots was prepared. The accuracy of diameter measurements by the field crew was assessed. The census will be completed during the next quarter.

The SIGEO climate tower on Barro Colorado Island ran a script to log climate data in SIGEO format as well as TEAM format.

Protocol Problems:

A few camera trapping points had to be re-established because the 2011 point could not be found.

The climate station failed to log climate data, for unknown reasons. The test run in the previous quarter had been successful. Part of the data were salvaged from the data logger, and the memory card with corrupted data was sent to Campbell to attempt salvage the data. A solution was discussed with the TEAM technical director. In the next quarter, we will develop a procedure to convert climate data logged in SIGEO format into TEAM format. The advantage is that the SIGEO data logging started in March 2011, before the TEAM data logging.

Logistical Problems:

One of the camera traps in Soberania National Park was destroyed, probably by a poacher.
