October - December
Protocol Activities:

Camera traps were placed in first array, which covers the Barro Colorado Nature Monument, in mid December. These will be collected mid to late January.

We continued the continuous camera-trap monitoring at 30 points across Barro Colorado Island, to capture community responses to the strong 2015-2016 El Nino event that brought severe drought to Panama. The predicted massive die-off due to starvation was not observed. In fact, animals were in excellent condition and very few carcasses were found.

Logistical Problems:

Quite a few cameras had problems. Most were related to insects entering the camera box via the vent, or to humidity causing electronical errors. All cameras but one could be repaired.

The rechargeable batteries no longer retained their charge so we purchased a new set - Amazon's own brand of high end NiMH batteries - which work fine.
