Protocol Activities:

Vegetation monitoring
Five vegetation plots have been re-measured. A total of 3007 stems were re-measured in this quarter. A total of 39 stems have been recruited; measured, mapped and identified to species level. Data entry into spreadsheets is in progress. Data will be uploaded onto the TEAM Network portal once entry is complete.

Climate monitoring
A gradual decrease in battery voltage was observed from the monthly climate data. The climate station was shut down when the battery voltage dropped below 10 V, with advise from the TEAM network technical support team. No weather data was collected for January, February and March. Climate station failure was reported to the TEAM network technical support team. Missing climate data was reported/accounted for in the climate verification tool of the myTEAM area. A second 40 W solar panel has been purchased, and has been installed on to the climate station. The station is currently running on only one HC2-S3 humidity/temperature sensor. Two HC2-S3 sensors are should be installed soon. The HC2-S3 sensors cost $644 plus cable per piece and taxes. The climate station fence also needs repainting at rusty points. Bi-weekly maintenance of the climate station has been carried out in accordance with the protocol.

Terrestrial vertebrate monitoring
No camera trap data collection is scheduled for this quarter. The next camera trapping survey is scheduled to start on 1st May 2014. Due to errors with DeskTEAM, the image annotation process for last FY’s camera trap data is rather slow. Camera trap data from array 1 for four sites cannot be annotated. Error print screens from DeskTEAM have been shared with the TEAM technical support team for advice. Image annotation is still on-going. Twenty one thousand twenty one images (21021) belonging to twenty-four species of mammals and three of birds were collected last year.

Protocol Problems:

Camera trap data from array 1 for four sites cannot be annotated. Error print screens from DeskTEAM have been shared with the TEAM technical support team for advice/solution.

The battery voltage at the climate station dropped charge, leading to the temporary shut down of the climate station to avoid data logger damage. This problem was communicated to the TEAM Network technical team. A second solar panel was installed on the climate station to solve power shortages.

Schedule Problems:

Delayed availlability of TEAM funds did not allow some activities to be implememnted on schedule. Vegetation plot re-measurement was delayed, and has only been completed. Our forthcoming camera trapping will be on schedule.

Logistical Problems:

Delayed availlability of TEAM funds.
