Protocol Activities:

Vegetation plots

Measurement error estimation for the diameter takers was conducted on 100 trees. A refresher training for all the crew was also conducted before plot re-measurement. One plot (VGBIF5) of the six vegetation plots was re-measured. Three hundred nineteen trees were re-measured, and twelve stems recruited. A total of 331 stems in this plot are measured, tagged, mapped and identified to species level. Data for the plot was entered into a spreadsheet.

Climate station

The climate station battery continues to drop charge. Reasons are not yet known, but possibly related to the fact that one solar panel is insufficient to charge the 200 Ah battery. The climate station experienced intermittent power failures. Climate data for October and November was submitted on to the portal. The data for December was not downloaded, and hence not uploaded on to the TEAM portal. The PC200W could not convert the card for December. This problem was communicated to the TEAM network technical support. Bi-weekly maintenance of the climate station was carried out in accordance with the protocol. The maintenance logs for October and November were uploaded onto the portal. It is critical to add a second solar panel to the climate station soonest we receive the FY15 TEAM funds.

Camera traps

Camera trap images were downloaded into DeskTEAM. The image annotation process is still very slow. We are running into errors with DeskTEAM. These errors are communicated to the TEAM technical support as they are encountered. Data DVDs with .tpk files will be sent to the TEAM secretariat in Washington once the camera trap image annotations are complete.

Protocol Problems:

Funding for this financial year/quarter was delayed. For this reason, the vegetation plot re-measurement was delayed, and not on schedule. The delay in receiving the funds was communicated to the TEAM technical director.

Schedule Problems:

Activities not implemented on schedule due to delayed funding.

Logistical Problems:

Dealyed funding.

TEAM funds should be made as early as possible to avoid delay in protocol implementation. A thorough check of deskTEAM bugs should be done. Errors in deskTEAM significantly slows down the image annotating time. The technical support team has been very helpful, but there is time lost  between the site and the technical support.
