Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

New Species:

The Terrestrial Vertebrates Protocol recorded two new species: Sapajus apella (Tufted capuchin) and Guerlinguetus aestuans (Brazilian squirrel). These species are already known for Caxiuanã but had not been previously recorded by cameras trap.

Protocol Activities:
  • The climate data were collected without problems this quarter. The new protocol was installed in final November.
  • We have completed the sampling period in array 2 for the Terrestrial Vertebrates protocol. Data were uploaded in December.
  • Vegetation protocol made a field trip on December to observe some individuals and to collect leaves, flowers and fruits (if was necessary) for identification of some species that were not correctly identified before.
Protocol Problems:

Schedule Problems:

Climate data from December are delayed because we didn’t travel to Caxiuanã after the installation of new protocol (December 1st). Data will be updated until January.

Logistical Problems:

We had problems with our Yamaha 40 HP motor again. We will replace part of it.

We have a suggestion for DeskTeam. Sometimes is not possible to identify terrestrial vertebrates until the species level. It happens principally with small mammals that you can’t be sure about color, size and other important characteristics (many times we have to analyze skulls to identify species). So, we suggest that DeskTEAM makes available an option to identify just until genus level. Otherwise, the pictures without identification (unknown/unidentifiable) become lost data.
