Communications activities:

2 CL technicians were trained in maintenance and assisted in the set up of the climate station near to the NAK training centre from February 1 and 2nd. Provincial representatives from the Provincial Department of Meteorology also attended and were interested in obtaining data from the site to complement their records. The content of the training consisted of:

  • Introduction to TEAM
  • Climate monitoring protocol and implementation
  • Introduction to the components of the CL station
  • Maintenance schedule
  • Changing CF cards

As of the 7th June, 2010 Chris Hallam, The site coordinator will be leaving to begin a new project within WCS Lao. Mr Alex McWilliam will be taking over TEAM responsibilities for the NAK site.

Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

On the 4th of April there was particularly high wind bringing down a number of trees and damaging power lines in the provincial capital of Paksane. No damage is reported to the CL station. Lao is presently in a drought year. CTNAK114 Captured some stunning pictures of muntjacks sparring in a forest clearing. (CT placement by Sombath Vounghue)

Schedule Problems:

Implementation of the VG protocol is slightly behind schedule due to illness in the team. All VG plots expect to be finished by 14th April. TEAM was notified with email on 5th April. Climate station continues to be problematic with data collection unexpectedly stopping on the 11 March. All sensors seem to be functioning normally when checked.

Logistical Problems:

60 Cameras were set, however one was stolen from the field presumably by hunters afraid of being photographed in Array3. The missing data point is CTNAK303 (SN: RM13AC04003421). A replacement camera, batteries and cable will need to be sent for 2010-11 implementation.
