Communications activities: 

On February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd 2017, Laza and Jean de Dieu had met with the responsible of the regional meteorological station in Fianarantsoa. Since the inauguration of our climate station, we had a good collaboration with the National meteorological station in Antananarivo and also the regional meteorological station in Fianarantsoa. We talked about the World Meteorological Day 2017 and the way to share the climate information to the public, especially to the local people. They trained us about climate observation and the manipulation of the different climate equipment we may use.

The Radio Feon’I Ranomafana (RFIR) restarted again. All broadcasts in this radio are targeting to sensitize the local people around the Park. All project at Centre ValBio can produce a broadcast in this station. We already did two during this quarter.

Rahaingoarimanana Razanamahandry is the current person who makes the financial review for TEAM project in Madagascar. Alida Sahondraniaina (the previous TEAM financial responsible at CI) introduced her to us during the financial review on February 10, 2017.

All administrative tasks, such as the regularization of IRSA, OSIER, CNaPS, reporting, etc. has been conducted by Safidiniaina Jaofelalijaona.

Unusual Events at the TEAM Site: 

On January 12, 2017 just after 1 am, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit the highlands of Madagascar. It was centered in Betafo at the region of Vakinankaratra. It had a duration around 15-20 second. Fortunately, no significant damage happened during and after that time even this is infrequent in Madagascar.

On March 8th and 9th, the cyclone Enawo hit the different area in Ranomafana National Park. Many thing were broken and one person from Andafy Atsimo in Ranomafana died as a result of the cyclone.

Protocol Activities: 

One field team continues to do the monitoring of Vegetation and Terrestrial vertebrate protocol. All fieldwork related to TEAM 7 has been done during this quarter.

Vegetation Protocol: the re-census for the last two vegetation plots for Ranomafana TEAM site (Andranofady and Ranomena) has been done.

Terrestrial Vertebrate Protocol: the deployment for the 20 remaining camera traps point for Array 1 (Andranofady-Ranomena) has been done.

Climate Protocol: Monthly climate data collection (every 15th of the month) and bi-weekly climate station maintenance have been conducted regularly. All climate data for this quarter was not uploaded.

Protocol Problems: 

An error happens when we upload the climate data into the TEAM Portal due to issues with the time stamp conversion.
