Communications activities:

Staff from the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) has recently visited the field station and were presented TEAM activities by the site manager, Emanuel Martin.

Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

New Species:

Protocol Activities:

In this quarter, TEAM monitoring begun its third year in Udzungwa. As such, the terrestrial vertebrates protocol was initiated in July and 2 arrays were successfully deployed (40 camera-traps, the third array of 20 cameras is currently running). Images are currently being entered in deskTEAM. Vegetation monitoring begun at the end of October, while climate monitoring was forced to pause due to vandalism at the climate station (see below).

Protocol Problems:

In July (sometime between 15-30), the battery and panel of the climate station were stolen after thieves cut the fencing that protects the tower. Following consultation with TEAM techincal director, we decided to design a locking system using iron bars for both panel and battery. The new system (see photo in the news item) was re-installed on September 30th and data collection resumed in October 3rd.

Schedule Problems:

Due to the above mentioned vandalism at the climate station, climate data collection paused during august-september.

Logistical Problems:
