2. Terrestrial Vertebrate (camera trap) Monitoring Protocol
From 3rd to 6th April, training was held on camera trap data analysis. This training was provided by Tim O’ Brien and was held at WCS office in Kigali. Four trainees including two staff from WCS and two staff from IGCP, attended the training. This training covered both theoretical and practical aspects with different subjects such as study design, formulating hypotheses, probability and data analyses. As the training objective was mainly camera trap data analyses, it focused on data retrieval and preparation for making them useful for further analyses. Trainees were introduced to the PRESENCE software as a tool to analyze camera trap data. The software helped in formulating different models on detection probability and occupancy estimates of a given species for a single season and multi-seasons. The training was interesting though the time was not enough to cover all aspects and exercises. The trainer left enough training materials that will help trainees as reference materials for self-training. Trainees are planning to perform other analyses on several other species and see if they can get an interesting trend in species distribution and occupancy.

Also during this period, 4 HC600 HyperFire Covert Camera Traps, 4 32GB MICRO SD Card with Adapter, 4 Python Lock by Master Lock and 28 Rechargeable batteries - Eneloop AA 210 were purchase for future camera trapping.
